Android L

Android L-the upcoming mobile operating system from Google will come with several new features.

1.New User Interface-The new interface will be based on a design language called Material Design, which adds more animations, shadows and white spaces in apps. The on-screen navigation keys will also get a whole new look with this release; the Home, Back and Multitasking keys are now symbolized by a circle, triangle and square.

2.3D Multitasking-The multitasking menu of Android will get a 3D look with the next update. This is also courtesy Material Design and shows the open apps as overlapping cards. The 3D effect is generated with the help of “shadows and perspectives,” Google says.

3.Enhanced Notification-Users will be able to read, open and dismiss notifications without unlocking their smartphone or tablet.Heads-up Notifications is an element that shows new notifications on top of the screen, irrespective of the app is running at that time. This feature has been implemented by third-party developers in their apps, but will now be used in Google’s own apps as well.

4.64-bit CPU support- Google has ensured that Android supports 64-bit processors from the next version. This means that addressable memory constraints are now lifted and Android devices will be able to make full use of the available RAM.

5.Apps go faster- Google has replaced Dalvik run-time with ART (Android run-time) in Android L release. ART was only an option till KitKat, but will now be the default. With ART implementation, apps will run faster than they do now. However, they will also take up more space on the device.

6.Improved Battery life- Battery life will be more improved in Android L version.

7. More Security features - Android L will include the much-needed kill-switch that enables users to remotely reset their smartphone or tablet in case it is stolen. In Secret mode, the device will not show any notifications on the lock screen.

8.More improved graphics-Google introduced Android Extension Pack at the event. The technology focuses on enhancing graphics on mobile devices, making PC-like gaming possible on Android devices.

Windows 9-Few Information

Although no official announcement from Microsoft about their next version of windows there are plenty of rumors about their release date, price and features.

Windows Blue turned out to be Windows 8.1 rather than a completely new version of the Windows OS – Windows 9 will be that new version. As for interim releases, we'll probably also get Windows 8.2 before we get Windows 9. And we have already seen the initial update to Windows 8.1, called Windows 8.1 Update 1.
The new update features improvements to the Start Screen including the ability to boot straight into the Desktop, the return of shutdown on Start and a more familiar task bar to unify the old and new user interfaces. The update was announced at Build 2014, along with features teased for Windows updates to come.
The next complete version of Windows is being referred to as Windows 9, though this may change. And a new codename has appeared – Threshold, possibly in refrence to moving across from our reliance on the desktop to a new world where the Start screen is at the heart of how we use Windows.

Release Date

Some rumors have suggested late 2014 or early 2015 for a Windows 9 release, it seems like Windows 9 should drop before September 2015 at the latest.

Price

What the collective has heard exactly is that a prototype version is in the works in which a barebones version of Windows 9 will be available for free. For additional functionality, users would have to pay up through a subscription.

Electric Clothes

Scientists at Wake Forest University have developed a fabric that doubles as a spare outlet. When used to line your shirt — or even your pillowcase or office chair — it converts subtle differences in temperature across the span of the clothing (say, from your cuff to your armpit) into electricity. And because the different parts of your shirt can vary by about 10 degrees, you could power up your MP3 player just by sitting still. According to the fabric’s creator, David Carroll, a cellphone case lined with the material could boost the phone’s battery charge by 10 to 15 percent over eight hours, using the heat absorbed from your pants pocket. Doctor Band-Aid

Band-aid!!This is come to use when we need to cover our wounds. But now it is also used for health monitoring purpose.Strange!!!Yes this is the fact.

The researchers from Illinois and Northwestern university have developed an electronic patch looking like band-aid that can stick to a user's skin and can relay health information to a phone or computer. The device includes silicon chips contained in a plastic case and silicon fluid that help it to stay attached to the skin even through continuous movement. The designer designed them in a way so that the patch does not break and fold and unfold according to the skin's motion.
In the near future the developers wants to add bio-mechanical sensors to it so that it can analyze user's sweat and transmit more information about health.

protect from phishing

Protect yourself from Phishing

Phishing is a electronic communication concept through which a person or a company trying to steal personal data and passwords.

More than 37 million people has encountered phishing attack in the last year surveyed by kaspersky Lab.According to Symantec on 2013 392 e-mails per day is a phishing mail.

It works by impersonating communications from companies that you trust: banks, online payment firms like PayPal, social networks, online retailers and other technology companies, as well as government bodies (tax authorities, for example).

Some tips for avoiding phishing mail:

If it looks wrong, it probably is wrong:Typos can be a sign that an email is dodgy.Typos in an email from your bank really are a red flag – as are all-capitals in the email's subject and a few too many exclamation marks.

Check the email address carefully: A big company usually sends mails from a same address. If that differs then be careful.

Watch for impersonal introductions: Real e-mails comes usually with your real name. But when you get like "Dear Customer" or something like that then its a warning sign.

Beware of threats and urgent deadlines: Sometimes a reputable company does need you to do something urgently – eBay was recently forced to ask its customers to change their passwords quickly after a cyberattack, for example. But usually, threats and urgency are a sign of phishing: if you're being asked to do something to prevent your account being shut down, or within a tight deadline, its cause for caution.

Be careful  about phone numbers and web links : If you are asked to call a number or click a link please do a verification for confirmation for its legitimacy.

Beware of spear phishing : In recent years, a new variant has emerged called spear phishing, which is much more personal.Spear phishing targets individuals: instead of "Dear Customer" an email might address you by name, refer to a recent transaction you've made and/or draw on other information that you've shared online – often on social networks. Most advice on avoiding spear phishing involves urging you to be more careful on social networks: the kind of "could this information be useful to a cyber criminal" caution that may not come naturally when tapping out a tweet or Facebook status update.

SportsQuest Wants To Be QuizUp For Sport, With A Few Twists

Quiz-Up is a challenge-style game that was released last September and has created a lot of buzz around its social model. The massive take-up it achieved demonstrated that there was a market for competitive, real-time quiz apps. A few new apps have tried to replicate this, but not many in vertical subjects. SportsQuest, by Cuju Media, is an iOS app that plans to do just that and was actually started before QuizUp came out. With the World Cup around the corner, and with over 3 billion football fans on the planet, SportsQuest is well-timed.

SportsQuest is a competitive quiz game for iPhone and iPad that lets sports fans test their knowledge against their friends and the clock. The game features a database of over 26,000 questions in 260 categories covering football and 21 other sports. It also includes a crowd-sourcing feature where players can send in their own questions and receive in-game currency and trophies if their questions are used.

It differs from other quiz apps in that, as well as real-time head-to-head gameplay, SportsQuest offers solo games.

Co-founder James Duez says “Players can also ‘play ahead’ when their friends are busy, and let them catch-up. Your opponent gets to play against a recording of your game, so to them it feels live.”

QuizUp has had some criticism for rewarding persistence a little more than knowledge. Instead, SportsQuest has a leaderboard, and players are rewarded for sports knowledge and speed by recognizing cumulative, highest and average scores.

SportsQuest is a also a bit more than a simple quiz. It’s fast-paced with games lasting under a minute. Its in-app currency can be spent on in-game perks that add a strategic dimension and can get you out of a hole.

Like some other free-to-play games like Candy Crush, there is a regenerating ticket mechanism so that players can start off with a book of five game tickets that, once used, immediately regenerate for free every 20 minutes. Impatient players can recharge their books immediately by introducing a friend or can pay 69p. The game also offers unlimited passes for an hour, or one-day and seven-day passes. There are many other payment options.

You can enroll by email, Facebook or Twitter, but the game does not post on your behalf unless you choose to share individual achievements. Some games (including QuizUp) are quick to embarrass you if you do not do well by posting your failures online, which can be annoying.

Visio-bike

The iPhone-Controlled Visiobike Will Take You For A Ride

Zoom zoom! A Croatian company wants to put your butt onto a new kind of bike, a sort of electric/mechanical hybrid that uses battery assist to help you up the hills and includes an automatic transmission system that ensures you rarely have to use the battery.

Called the Visiobike, the $5,303 bike is made of carbon fiber and has a dock for your phone. Special software gives you a speedometer, transmission control and other treats as you scoot around town. It also has a camera in the seat for rear-facing views of traffic behind you in real time and for recording if someone rear-ends you.

Created by Marko Matenda, an entrepreneur and bike lover, the bike also has disc brakes, automatic safety lights, and a unique 3 minute recording feature that will show you what happened in an accident. Best of all, if the bike stops suddenly – and I mean really suddenly – a built-in emergency alarm will use your phone to contact the authorities. The feature, needless to say, could be a lifesaver.

Again, it’s surprisingly expensive so you’re going to have to think long and hard before you drop the $5k+ to pick one of these up. However, it looks like a fascinating move forward for pedal-assist bikes and electric bikes in general.

Smart driving assistant..

Smart Driving Assistant Comes To Android With Safety-Focused “Do Not Disturb” And Crash Alert Features

Automatic, the smart driving assistant that combines a small hardware device that plugs in your car and a mobile app that provides drivers with data about their vehicle and their driving habits, is now available on Android. Previously an iOS-only application, this release also delivers a couple of new features as well, including an Android-exclusive “do not disturb” mode and a Crash Alert functionality.

The Crash Alert feature, which is currently in beta, is arriving on both iOS and Android for testing purposes. The idea is to offer the conveniences that an integrated system like OnStar would provide in terms of emergency assistance, but bundled into a mobile application instead. With Crash Alert enabled, Automatic will be able to detect if you’ve been in a serious crash and will notify the local authorities with your location even if you can’t.

In addition, someone from Automatic will also reach out to your family and other loved ones on your behalf to let them know what has happened, and that emergency responders are on their way.

The company says that this focus on safety came to the forefront of the team’s mind when they began working on the Android release, which is what also prompted them to introduce the feature that will silence the phone while driving, so users are not bothered by rings or incoming texts. Rather, the app integrates deeply into the Android operating system in order to auto-replies to rings, texting callers back with an automated message that tells them you’re currently driving.

The Android app is here on Google Play. The app itself is free, but as with its iOS counterpart, it works in conjunction with a hardware accessory which plugs into your car’s data port. This is a one-time fee of $99.95. There are no ongoing subscription fees, however.

Top 5 free Antivirus software

Free antivirus software 2014-Top 5

1. Avast Free Antivirus

The program is simple to install; a straightforward interface makes it easy to use; a quick first scan should identify any potential threats on your PC, and this all has minimal impact on your system performance.

Avast Free has some useful extras, too. A Software Updater alerts you to program updates you've missed, for instance, while its Browser Cleanup tool provides a simple way to remove unwanted add-ons from your browsers.

Avast recently added a "Grime Fighter," which the company says supports 12 additional languages and offers an advanced console for more user control.

2. Panda Cloud Antivirus Free

Small and simple, Panda Cloud Antivirus is a lightweight tool which provides free real-time antivirus protection, and can be used alongside many other security tools without problems.

It's the free version of a commercial product, and so has a few missing features. The Pro edition helps to protect you at public wifi networks, for instance, while its "USB Vaccine" function reduces the risk of malware infecting a USB drive.

Panda recently released version 3.0, which includes a bevy of new features for Pro users. However, users of the free software will be able to access a new interface, the ability to schedule scans, and automatic USB vaccinations.

3. ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall

We have one or two concerns about ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall, notably that its antivirus database is only updated daily (hourly updates are reserved for the commercial version), which leaves you more exposed to the very latest threats,

The program does provide plenty of functionality, though, with a capable, AV-Test-certified antivirus engine, an easy-to-use firewall and some browsing protection.

The database update means it wouldn't be our first choice, but if you're a fan of ZoneAlarm, or just want a firewall and antivirus tool from the same company, this could be a good choice.

4. Avira Free Antivirus

A strong antivirus engine (rated highly by independent labs for its file detection rates) constantly monitors your PC, looking for and eliminating threats.

If you choose to install the Avira toolbar then you also get some web tools (an antiphishing tool, ad blocker, social networking protection), although this also replaces your default search engine with an Avira page.

5. Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition

Bitdefender's antivirus engine is one of the best around, and a favourite of the independent testing labs, so getting a free version sounds very appealing indeed.

The program is ultra-compact, downloading and installing in less than a minute on our test PC (although it does demand removal of any incompatible products first). A very basic interface then provides effective on-demand and automatic scanning, real-time antivirus and antiphishing protection.

There are very few manual controls here: no settings, no options, no scan types, no scheduling, nothing at all, perhaps an issue if you like to fine tune your security. But if you prefer simplicity then Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition is an excellent choice.

Six amazing facts of computer

Six amazing things you didn't know about your computer

 BITS, BYTES AND SIZE

Every gigabyte, there's 1,024 megabytes; 1,024 kilobytes in a megabyte, and 1,024 bytes in a kilobyte. Breaking it down to the lowest level, you've got 8 bits in a byte.

Why does that matter? Because on a flash drive, each bit of data is made up of eight separate floating gates, each comprising two physical transistors, which can record themselves as either a '1' or a '0'. That means that an 8GB iPod Touch has 549,755,813,888 gates arrayed inside that svelte aluminium body.

EVERYTHING ON NET IS ON YOUR COMPUTER

Every time you stream a video or the week's latest Top 40 off the web, it's actually, technically playing off your computer. Every Internet media file has to make a local copy of itself on your machine, first. Ever wondered what that white buffering bar means on YouTube or Netflix? It's the amount of video that's been copied to the local cache, a.k.a. the amount you can still watch if your Net decides to up and die.

THE DISTANCE DATA TRAVELS

A quick experiment for you: click this link, which should take you to Wikipedia. With one click, you've just fetched a bunch of data from servers in Virginia, 6,000 km away. Your request has travelled from your computer, through a local Wi-Fi router or a modem, up to a local data centre, from there onwards (under the Atlantic Ocean, if you're in the UK), all the way to Virginia, and back again - in around 0.1 of a second, depending on how good your Internet connection is. Think twice before you complain about 'bulky' Ethernet again.

COUNTING STARTS AT ZERO

Thanks to the way its intrinsic circuitry works, every action that takes place at a base level is happening in binary, where things are either a 1 or a 0, with no shades of grey in between. This actually translates up to a neat bit of programming trivia - in the computer science world, all counting starts at zero, not one.

THE WORK THAT GOES INTO A CTRL+C, CTRL+V

The amount of copying that solid state drives do is a rather under-appreciated fact. Because of the complicated way it works, over-writing a block of old data with some new data isn't as simple as just writing the new stuff in with a bigger Sharpie. Rather, the storage drive has to do some complicated shuffling. In practice, this can mean that writing a tiny 4KB file can require the drive to read 2MB, store that temporarily, erase a whole tonne of blocks, then re-write all the data. It's rather labour-intensive, so think before you juggle your files around next time.

Wipro-Den

Wipro to offer cloud services to cable-service provider DEN Networks

IT giants Wipro has bagged an order to provide cloud-based managed services to digital cable and broadband service provider DEN Networks.

The deal will enable DEN to transform into a B2C (business-to-customer) from B2B (business-to-business) firm.

"The 10-year-long contract will enable DEN to provide its customers, local cable operators and partners with real-time services, ensuring continuous engagement and zero downtime," the global software major said in a statement here Monday.

The order will also help DEN to deploy its next generation services and provide quicker service activation, accurate rating and billing through seamless connectivity and integration.

The deal envisages DEN offering SMS and BSS (business support system)-user friendly solutions to allow cable operators to deliver personalised services to their subscribers at improved delivery time.

Working as partners, both firms will meet the changing needs of their customers, provide more choices and market solutions, using onboard and cloud-based distributed analytics.

"Our user-centric architecture and expertise in the broadband & cable space will help DEN engage with customers at a deeper level," Wipro vice-president and business head of global communications Anil K Jain said.

The cloud-based platform will use an extendible patented model to consolidate subscriber, product, service and infrastructure-based operational data.

The platform will also allow operators to create and manage a range of residential and business products for operational efficiency and greater user experience.

As a part of the deal, the cloud-based service will automate DEN's backend processes for seamless subscriber experience and build customer loyalty.

cloud future in India

The cloud is calling, but is India ready?

Considering that the concept of 'zero' actually came from India, you would think that data, basically a huge combination of numbers, will be of great importance in this country. Well, in many ways, it is true.

There are more than a billion people in this country whose records are stored in public archives. There are academic records, stored in the archives of schools, colleges and universities. Moreover, the blooming healthcare industry in India also collects and stores new data every single second. But what's unique about the data situation in India is that, till the 90s, most of it was stored in hard copies - paperwork that could fill up football stadiums.

The need for data security

US accused China of backing hackers who allegedly stole crucial information that could hamper America's trade prospects. On the other hand, the NSA in America has been accused of similar crimes when they admittedly intercepted personal messages from China Telecom to learn more about the Chinese military. Therefore, it is high time that India should hugely invest in data security. Being a developing nation, cost is an issue, though. And that is exactly why Cloud-based computing might be one way to go about it.

Is India Cloud-ready?

Now that is the million-dollar question, isn't it? In India, Microsoft Office 365 is available for a price of Rs 330 per month or Rs 3,299 per year. According to reports available from Microsoft, its goal for India is to have at least 25 million users for Cloud services. And with the growing love affair of Indians with their smartphones and tablets, such a goal is not at all unreachable. But is India ready for such an overwhelming change?

The Asia Cloud Computing Association came up with a Cloud Readiness Index for 14 nations across the continent this year and the previous one. While Japan topped the list both times, India came in 9th last year but slipped to 13th in 2014. The areas where India scored the lowest points are international connectivity and data centre risk. IPR protection in India also needs a serious overhaul. When the report came out earlier this year, it stated that India did not have a pro-ICT (Information and Communication Technology) business environment. But now that the country has a new leadership, one that is said to be business friendly, things may turn for the better.

Cloud computing is big and it is here to stay. Also, India has extremely skilled resources.

Wearable Technology Really is The Next Big Thing

Journalists have been predicting that wearable technology will be the “next big thing” for what seems like forever. With milestone releases like Google Glass, the Pebble Smartwatch, the Samsung Galaxy Gear and the Nike+ Fuelband SE, it just might be time to finally crown wearables as the official “next big thing”. It’s at the point where the once-rumored, but still unannounced iWatch is almost a given in 2014.

      Hard Drives Filled With Helium

Besides just sounding cool, the new helium-filled hard drives introduced by Western Digital this year are a game-changer in storage technology. To put it simply, because their new highly efficient hard drives are filled with helium rather than air, they can now cram 6 TB of capacity into a single drive. You probably won’t be buying one of these any time soon, but with big cloud-centered companies taking part, you just might feel the benefits as a consumer of services like Netflix (especially now that 4K streaming has been announced).

The Bionic Eye: A Retinal Implant That Can Receive Updates

The Argus Retinal Prosthesis is the first of its kind—a bionic retinal implant that helps people see in the same way a hearing aid helps people hear. The Argus II was approved and released commercially in the United States in this year and received a firmware update that granted users color vision. The Argus II is a peek into the future—a glance into a future where once these implants get good enough, a bionic eye will be better than a natural human one.

                         Curved TV

The whole curved screen shtick has quickly become the great gimmick of 2014—that is, until LG showed off its 105” OLED 4k TV that just happened to have a nice flexible display on it. The curvature to this massive, gorgeous television feels just right—and unlike the curved displays on their smartphones, actually enhances the experience. This might be another product that won’t be hitting Best Buy shelves anytime soon, but that doesn’t take anything from the fact that LG has made an immersive and interesting television.

Sony 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector

Sony’s most peculiar and most exciting announcement this year was the Ultra Short Throw 4k Projector. Due to the surprisingly short distance the projector sits from the wall and the incredibly sharp picture, this 4k projector feels like the future of not only projectors—but TVs as a whole.

      5G-Some important facts

WHAT IS 5G?

5G is the short for fifth generation, a mobile broadband technology that is in the early stages of works and likely to be in place six to seven years from now. A 5G network will be able to handle 10,000 times more call and data traffic than the current 3G or 4G network.

WHAT WOULD A TYPICAL 5G EXPERIENCE BE LIKE?

You could download a three-hour high-definition movie on a mobile device in one second. It takes several minutes on a 3G or 4G network and several hours on 2G.

WILL 5G WORK ON THE SAME SPECTRUM BANDS THAT 3G AND 4G RUN ON?

Researchers have yet to finalise the spectrum band for 5G. But indications are that 5G networks will run on ultra-high spectrum bands like 15 GHz, 27 GHz or even 70 GHz.

WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATUS OF 5G?

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute is formulating 5G global technology standards, which are likely to be formalised by 2019.

Telecom companies such as Nokia, Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent , NTT DoCoMo, NEC, Samsung, Huawei and Fujitsu are driving bulk of the 5G-related innovations.

WHEN WILL PEOPLE BE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE 5G?

5G networks are likely to be rolled out commercially between 2020 and 2025. If the global standards are finalised by 2019, the earliest commercial deployments could happen by 2020.

Japan's NTT DoCoMo is targeting a 5G commercial launch by 2020 and will start indoor trials at its R&D centre in Yokosuka this year.

WILL 3G AND 4G HANDSETS RUN ON 5G NETWORKS?

No. 5G will require new chipsets and devices capable of supporting speeds upwards of 10 gigabits per second. 4G and 3G run at a fraction of that speed.

ARE THERE ANY INHERENT WEAKNESSES IN 5G?

Higher frequencies could be blocked by buildings and they lose intensity over longer distances. That means, offering wider coverage would be a challenge.
